The humble memorial of Wm O'Brien, Colonial Secretary of Hongkong, sheweth

1. That Your Lordship's humble memorialist recently memorialized Your Lordship to be allowed to exchange offices with Mr. Morgan, Auditor General of Ceylon. Your Lordship was unable to accede to the prayer of that Memorial; but as the Reasons for that inability may not preclude the appointment of the memorialist to the post of Auditor-General of Ceylon in the event of its becoming

vacant, he ventures to ask that, if it become vacant, he may

be appointed to it.

2. That the memorialist's reasons for

wishing to leave Hongkong

are set out in the

Memorial above referred to ; and he now begs to submit the following further considerations in support of his present application.

as 1860 the salary

of the Colonial Secretary of Hongkong was fixed at £1500, sterling, and then, and subsequently
